It’s been a busy season for Malaysia’s esports. With the Selangor Cyber Games (SCG) and the Acer Predator League in full blast, fans and players have managed to stay busy. As the event draws to closer to the grand finals, there is still a lot of top-shelf Dota 2 to see.
The Dota 2 Acer Predator League
October has been a busy month for esports enthusiasts and professionals in Malaysia. With the Predator League’s events taking place throughout the month, we have so far witnessed PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) and Dota 2.
Dota 2’s LAN finals are taking place as we speak, with 16 teams making it to the event, following the online qualifiers earlier this month. Day 1 saw teams face off in a Best of One (BO1) format.
Following the first round of matches, a new bracket was formed to give the teams that had lost in the first round of games a chance to progress further.
We saw team WG Unity surge past their opponents from Diamond and land in the second round of the competition versus Team L waiting. L were eliminated in the following game, which Unity concluded with 2 swift victories, continuing their winning streak from the online qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Lotac had a similar fate, managing to tackle their opponents with an impeccable score, which eventually dropped them in the crucible with WG Unity. Lotac established dominance early in Game 1, allowing them to conclude the game quickly.
The second game appeared to be better balanced, but it still finished with Lotac claiming WG’s Throne by around the 30’ mark. With Unity relegated to the loser’s bracket, Lotac continued playing against Team Highground (HG). Overcoming Boston Major’s WG was a significant achievement by itself.
Next, Lotac faced HG, coming across as confident in Game 1 with HG struggling to cope, and winning it. HG opened with first blood in Game 2, with a build that relied perhaps too much on spell casting. Lotac had picked silencer and Morphling, which, in the long term, should have been able to tackle HG’s line-up.

The game progressed at a balanced pace, with teams trading kills and fights. In the 37’ a fight broke out, seeing two players from Lotac drop, with the gem being lost seconds later and Morphling buying back.
At 46’ Lotac sacrificed their Shadow Shaman in the Rosh pit where HG were killing Roshan. HG decided to retreat after securing a kill on the Shadow Shaman, allowing Lotac.YateH to move in and claim the Aegis, and prompting the commentators to scream not believing their eyes. While things didn’t look decided yet, an ill-considered fight wiped Lotac.
Game 3 went entirely in the way of HG, with Lotac struggling to keep up. Lotac is now set to meet with either WG Unity or Team Legenda, depending on who will win at the semi-finals and progress to the lower-bracket finals, where the squad is waiting.
A repeat between Lotac and WG Unity may vey well be on the cards, with the winner of that match heading straight into the grand finals to face off Team Highground.
On November 4, the Predator League for Dota 2 is wrapping up and the finalists will be heading into the February competition next year and vie for a share of the $400,000 prize pool.
